Three Women, Three Stories, Three Tours?
Theatre Midwest Presents three seperate shows, each presenting very different topics. What do they have in common? Each story is told by a woman actor. The stories have playwrights or themes that are connected to the Midwest. Each show is presenting tour dates around the Midwest... Want us to come to your door? something something.
Miriam is making an apple pie.
Several years ago, Miriam’s son, Robert, committed a horrible crime and has been sitting on death row ever since. As is the tradition, in the waning hours before the end comes, Robert is granted a last meal. This is a play about monsters and the mothers of monsters. And about how we care for each other. And about how to make a really good apple pie. |
This hilarious and touching piece tears away any musty old remnants of the “early 1900s version” of The Seagull by having one actor perform all 10 characters. It's a robust 90-minute journey told by a tour de force actor, Joan Korte. This fresh, witty treatment of one of the most popular and important comedies in modern drama will cause patrons to laugh, to shed a tear, to ask (as patrons have been doing for 130 years) "What is wrong with these people?!"

Award-winning playwright E.M. Lewis tells the story of America’s relationship with guns through the prism of her own personal experiences. From a farming community in rural Oregon to the big cities of Los Angeles and New York, an actor shares Ms. Lewis’s unique perspective and true stories about America’s most dangerous pastime, with brutal honesty and poignant humor. Leaning neither right nor left, The Gun Show jumps into the middle of the gun control debate and asks, “Can we have a conversation about this?”

Inspired by our colleagues at Mixed Blood Theatre in Minnesota, and encouraged by a number of other organizations around the country, we proclaimed at our inception that live theatre must be a lot more accessible to a whole lot more people. In our work, our mission, and our being we commit to removing barriers that discourage people from being our guests.
With access as our guiding principle, we work toward this goal in two main ways:
